8 October 2007 – ConstructionSpace Supplies Site Accommodation for £47m Building Contract

ConstructionSpace, the web-based service from Foremans Relocatable Building Systems for the supply of modular accommodation to the construction industry, has provided a three-storey site office building for Taylor Woodrow Construction in Bury St Edmunds.

The building will be used by the contractor for the duration of its £47m contract to build Arc – a new mixed-use retail scheme in the town centre.

Developed by Centros Miller, Arc occupies a 10-acre site on the former Cattle Market and includes a new public square, around 35 shops, a department store, a public venue building, 62 apartments and underground parking for 200 cars.

The office building from ConstructionSpace will be on site for two years until Arc is completed. It provides open plan and cellular office accommodation for around 60 Taylor Woodrow, supply chain and client staff, meeting rooms and reception area, with welfare facilities on the ground floor such as changing, locker and shower rooms and a canteen for up to 200 people.

The building is constructed from 36 pre-fitted steel-framed modules, which were supplied by ConstructionSpace from another construction site, eliminating double handling charges and reducing cost and programme time.

Commenting on the project, Simon Buck, Senior Project Manager at Taylor Woodrow Construction, said, "ConstructionSpace presented us with an attractive proposal, which proved to be the most cost-effective solution to our site accommodation needs. It offered the best value for money and the spatial flexibility to suit our requirements. This is a good set up and we have had positive comments from visitors to the site."

The first service of its kind in the UK, ConstructionSpace supplies pre-owned modular buildings that are immediately available for sale to the construction sector. Sizes range from 340sqft up to 30,000sqft, and in single or multi-storey configurations.

Applications include project offices, single site cabins, toilet and shower blocks, training and induction rooms and security offices. Many of the buildings are supplied pre-fitted with offices, meeting rooms, toilets, kitchens and reception areas, saving time and further reducing costs.

In addition to its sales services, ConstructionSpace will consider purchasing quality modular buildings which are surplus to contractors’ requirements.
