
ConstructionSpace, the web-based service from Foremans Relocatable Building Systems for the purchase and supply of modular accommodation to the construction sector, has provided two-storey office accommodation for the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) extension, in just four weeks.
The offices were required by GrantRail Group and Skanska who are joint venture partners in a multi-million pound extension of the DLR to Stratford International Station in the heart of the Olympics regeneration area.
The 500sqm building comprises 20 pre-owned steel-framed modules, which were relocated to the site in Stratford to accommodate around 45 people for up to three years. It was supplied complete with open plan offices, meeting rooms, cellular offices, reception, toilets and kitchenette.
Commenting on the project, Rob Grassom, Facilities Manager at GrantRail, said, "We have used ConstructionSpace previously, to supply site accommodation for a project in Kent. When we were awarded the DLR contract with Skanska we looked at a number of building solutions and felt the ConstructionSpace option best suited our needs, programme and cost requirements."
"This approach is significantly faster and more cost-effective than new build. We needed the accommodation as soon as we won the contract to move in the team and organise the site. We had a good working relationship with ConstructionSpace and the project manager was excellent, giving us a single point of contact throughout. We are now working with ConstructionSpace again following our success with Skanska in winning the second phase of the DLR extension."

The ConstructionSpace website – www.constructionspace.co.uk – lists the current stock of modular buildings, and provides photographs, specifications and layouts, reducing the time taken in sourcing accommodation. The buildings are delivered on a site-to-site basis, eliminating double handling charges and reducing costs. Sizes range from 340sqft up to 30,000sqft, and in single or multi-storey configurations.
Applications include project offices, single site cabins, toilet and shower blocks, training and induction rooms and security offices. Many of the buildings are supplied pre-fitted with offices, meeting rooms, toilets, kitchens and reception areas, saving time and further reducing costs.
ConstructionSpace offers a range of services, from project management and Autocad, to delivery and installation, and in compliance with all health and safety requirements.
